Hedgehogs are small, shrew-like mammals whose fur has evolved into tiny spines that protect the hedgehog from predators. If threatened, the hedgehog will curl up into a ball to protect areas without spines: namely its face, feet, and underbelly.

  • History: Hedgehogs are relatively ancient mammals, having changed very little in 15 million years. The word “Hedgehog” refers to the animal’s pig-like nose, and the fact that it’s often found in rows of hedges. Hedgehogs are popular pets, but can be difficult to care for and some U.S. states do not allow domesticated Hedgehogs. The most commonly kept species is the White-bellied Hedgehog, which is native to central Africa.
  • Scientific Name:Family Erinaceidae, Subfamily Erinaceinae

    Hazel ★★★★★

I was a bit worried the spines would feel too prickly, but they're actually soft and flexible. Great for adding a tiny tactile surprise to any table scatter or craft project.

    Timothy L. ★★★★★

The spines on these little hedgehogs feel surprisingly sturdy, not flimsy like some other minis I've bought. I set a few in a line on my desk and they curl up just as described when you look closely.

    Benjamin A. ★★★★★

The little spines on these hedgehog minis are way more detailed than I expected for such tiny pieces, and I love how you can curl them into balls. I bought them as lucky party favors, and everyone kept picking them up to admire the tiny faces. They really add a unique, charming touch to a collection
