The largest of the big cats isn’t the Lion; it’s actually the Siberian Tiger, which measures nearly 11 feet long and weighs around 650 pounds. They live in the forests of eastern Russia, and although endangered, their numbers have stabilized.

  • History: The genus Panthera, which includes all the big cats, has a very crowded family tree. It includes lions, leopards, jaguars, and, of course, tigers. But at the roots of that family tree there should be a common ancestor, and scientists have worked hard to find it. DNA mapping shows that the big cats share a common ancestor from about 6 million years ago, and researchers have discovered a big cat skull in Asia that dated to 5.8 million years ago.
  • Scientific Name: Panthera tigris altaica
  • Characteristics: These mini Siberian Tigers look ready to pounce. Set them atop birthday cupcakes are place them in wildlife art projects. They’d also make fun giveaways or charms for sports teams.
  • Size: These tiny Siberian Tigers are about the length of a pen cap, around an inch long.

    Chloe ★★★★★

The little tigers are surprisingly detailed for their size—you can really see the stripes. My son lined them up from smallest to biggest and was thrilled to learn the Siberian Tiger is the real biggest cat. A fun, sturdy set that's gotten a lot of playtime already.

    Madison ★★★★★

I got these for my nephew who’s obsessed with big cats, and he immediately started counting the tigers to see if there were really 192. The little figures have such clear stripe patterns that we could tell which ones were Siberian tigers versus other types. Perfect for a rainy afternoon project.

    Jason S. ★★★★★

The detail on each tiny tiger stripe is incredible for such a small piece—makes the 192-piece count feel like a real bargain. I’ve already sorted them into habitats for a fun family geography lesson.
