Cownose Rays can grow to 7 feet wide from wingtip to wingtip. They range through the warm waters of the western Atlantic Ocean, from New England to the northern coast of South America. The unique crease where their fins meet gives them a cow-like face.

  • History: Although other ocean dwellers face population declines, Cownose Rays are one species that is thriving and increasing in numbers. Their next of kin includes Manta Rays, Bat Rays, and Spotted Eagle Rays, but Cownose Rays are a separate species. Their original name meant nose wing, and their current scientific name means bison wing, but they’ve kept their nickname because of the indentation between wings that looks like a cow’s muzzle.
  • Scientific Name: Rhinoptera bonasus
  • Characteristics: With a flexible stinger trailing behind and wings in mid flap, these Cownose Rays look ready to swim. Give them a home in an ocean project for school, or send them swimming off as prizes or decorations for an ocean-themed party.
  • Size: If you gave a nickel a tail, you’d have something about the size of these Cownose Ray minis, which each measure about an inch in length.

    Claire ★★★★★

The little ray wings have a nice, subtle texture that feels almost like real leather. Perfect size for a mini collection that doesn't take up much space. I've already ordered a second set because they look great together.

    Andrew ★★★★★

I bought these for a beach-themed party and the 192-piece count was perfect for filling multiple goody bags. The wingtip-to-wingtip detail on the packaging actually sparked a fun conversation about how big real cownose rays can get.

    Eli D. ★★★★☆

I was expecting them to be a bit larger given the description mentions 7 feet wingspan, but the detail on each little ray is still impressive. The unique crease pattern makes them feel more realistic than typical plastic animals. A solid set for the price, though I wish the box had a wider variety o
