帆背棘龍是迄今發現最大的肉食性恐龍之一，身長可達近 50 英尺！牠那獨特、讓牠得名的棘刺確切用途不明——有些科學家認為是用來調節體溫，也有人認為可能是用來展示，讓恐龍對潛在伴侶更具吸引力。甚至有人認為牠背上可能不是帆，而是巨大的駝峰！

歷史： 棘龍最早於 1915 年被發現——然而，當時僅知來自少數骨頭，所以除了背上的大型棘刺外，其實不太清楚牠其餘部分長什麼樣子。後來在 1990 年代及 2000 年代初發現的更多材料，讓世人對這隻白堊紀掠食者有更深入的了解，包括部分頭部顯示牠的吻部像鱷魚一樣長而窄。 2014 年描述的一具部分骨架徹底改變了人們對棘龍的看法，因為它顯示出與先前復原圖非常不同的身體比例，包括短得多的後肢，這似乎顯示棘龍更適合水生生活方式，身體構造適合游泳。

學名： Spinosaurus aegyptiacus（來自埃及的棘蜥蜴）
