Cassowaries are large, flightless bird found throughout New Guinea and northern Australia. They have a reputation for being ornery and attacking humans without provocation, although there are less than 250 documented cassowary attacks on record.

  • History: Because of their small range of suitable habitats, cassowaries are especially affected by habitat loss and over hunting. Of the three species, the southern cassowary is classified as vulnerable, the northern cassowary is classified as endangered, and the dwarf cassowary is classified as a species of least concern due to a recent boom in their population numbers.

    Kevin ★★★★★

My kids were absolutely thrilled when this arrived—the coloring is so vivid it looks like it could step right off the shelf. The sturdy plastic feet have survived a few drops already, which is a relief. Definitely a fun, unique addition to their animal collection.

    Harper Y. ★★★★☆

The legs are sturdy enough that my toddler hasn't managed to break them yet, and the realistic coloring is a nice touch for learning about birds. It would be even better if the beak had a bit more detail.

    Hazel K. ★★★★☆

My son has been obsessed with birds lately, and this cassowary figure is surprisingly detailed for the price. The claws even have a little texture to them, which he loves poking.
