My kids couldn't stop passing around the Australopithecus figure and debating which ancestor it looked like. The texture of each figure is surprisingly detailed, especially the subtle brow ridges on the later ones.

The five figures give you a real tactile sense of the progression, and the anatomical details on the Australopithecus are surprisingly clear for the size. My kids kept picking them up and arranging them in order without being asked, which says a lot.

My kid grabbed the Australopithecus figure first and immediately started asking questions about how we got from that to the modern human. It's so much more effective than just looking at pictures in a book.
